Reading at King's Ford Academy
Reading at King’s Ford Academy
Over the past few weeks, we have seen a flurry of exciting activities centred around reading here at King's Ford Academy, and we cannot wait to share all the wonderful developments with you!
Firstly, we’ve made substantial enhancements to our library. With our recent purchase of a myriad of new books from a diverse range of authors and genres, we aim to ignite a passion for reading among our children. Our collection now boasts titles that reflect a variety of viewpoints and topics, ensuring there’s something for every young reader.
To make our library even more inviting, we have added new comfy sofas, providing children a perfect spot to sink into a great book. Additionally, to celebrate the creativity of our students, we have decorated our library with entries from our storybook jar competition, making it a vibrant and inspiring space.
We are also thrilled to introduce our new team of librarians! These enthusiastic volunteers are committed to looking after our library and are actively recommending books to their peers. To equip them with knowledge and insights about library management, we organised a visit to Prettygate Library. The visit allowed them to observe how a library operates, discover new book titles that might intrigue our children, and learn about the daily workings of such an essential community space. The feedback from our young librarians was overwhelmingly positive; they returned brimming with fresh ideas to enhance our library offerings even further!
Lastly, we are delighted to recount our recent celebration of World Book Day! On Thursday morning, the school was transformed as a delightful ocean of words poured through the gates, showcasing the imaginative costumes and high-level vocabulary our children had conjured. It was a joy to witness the sea of creativity and love for reading that filled the school. Throughout the day, students engaged in seven unique activities related to various books, including crafting book monsters, making bookmarks, participating in 'Where's Wally?' challenges, and using a programme called Scratch to design their own stories.
Thank you for your continued support in fostering a love for reading at King's Ford Academy. We can’t wait to see how our young readers continue to develop!
