Welcome to the Venus class page.  Our class is named after the Goddess of love and we work as a team in Venus, using all of the growth mindset characters to ensure we learn to the best of our ability.  In Venus, we love working outside the classroom and much or our learning is active and based around discussions.  We will keep updating this page with the amazing learning that is happening in and around our school.

Our PE days are currently Wednesday and Thursday. (If anything changes we will use parent mail to keep you updated..

Ancient Greeks

In the Summer Term 2, year 4 will be learning about the history of the Ancient Egyptians and how they are still relevant to the modern world. 

Reading

In reading, we will be working through our VIPERS skills, focussing on one each week. We also highly encourage reading at home three times a week, as it is the best way for children to make progress and develop a love of reading. Ideally they will share this time with an adult.

English

In English, we have begun using Literacy Tree resources and will be concentrating on a text based approach, based on the story of Shackleton's journey into the frozen wastelands , to generate creativity and writing. Spellings will be given out each week to be stuck into reading records for practising at home and hand writing is practised 4 days per week also.

Spellings handed out each Tuesday to be tested on the following Tuesday. Please see a list of common exception words that children should practise alongside their weekly spellings.

Maths

In year 4 our big focus is working on our times tables. Children are encouraged to practise at home using the TTRS platform (see link below). Our main focus in lessons will be shape and measures.
